Whales migrate along the Pacific Coast of Mexico from December to March and sometimes as early as November. The whales most often seen during this migration are the humpback whales, which are well-known for their acrobatics and whale-watching tours. They are often seen breaching the surface and leaping out of the water.Visitors to Puerto Vallarta during the whale-watching season can book a tour with one of many operators. The Mexican government highly regulates whale watching, so tours must be booked with a certified guide who knows the rules.
